Caoimhin Kelleher, the goalie for Liverpool, has acknowledged that his form has improved significantly this year.
After winning Liverpool the Carabao Cup in 2021–2022, Kelleher was anticipated to perform well in the previous season. He only appeared in four games throughout the season, though, due to early eliminations from the Carabao and FA Cups.
Kelleher has already matched that total this season, with the Reds participating in Europa League competition. And ahead of the trip to Toulouse tomorrow, the Irishman says he feels sharper after chatting with Liverpoolfc.com.
“I’m obviously very happy that the manager has trusted me to start the League Cup games thus far as well as the games in this competition,” the 24-year-old admits. It has benefited me and has provided me a significant amount of playing time. I’ve enjoyed participating in this league, and it’s clear that you play against excellent opponents and have enjoyable away days like the one we had against Toulouse.
“It goes without saying that playing a few extra games has also improved my match sharpness. Thus, I’m merely attempting to be prepared in case something unfavourable occurs. All I’m trying to do is get ready for it as well as the games I’ll be starting.
“I feel fantastic. As I mentioned, I feel like I’m a little bit sharper than I was certainly last season. I’m also getting a little bit more game time, which obviously gives me a little bit more confidence to go out and keep playing well. I’ve been content, so it goes without saying that I just want to keep doing that.
Kelleher experiencing relief
Following an unsatisfactory season, it was almost certain that Kelleher would depart from Liverpool in pursuit of playing time come summertime.
Still, the Ireland international chose to stay for whatever reason.
This is fantastic news for Klopp, as he knows he can count on Kelleher to step up when needed. However, it does imply that Caoimhin won’t be playing as much for another year.
Still, he has an opportunity to keep an eye on things thanks to the Europa League.Alisson Becker has only appeared in one of the three games thus far, and that was because Kelleher was injured.
If and when Liverpool advances in the competition, it will be intriguing to watch what Klopp does with his goalies.
We believe that Kelleher need to have the opportunity to participate in the entire campaign. If the Reds advance to the tournament’s semifinals or final, though, it makes sense to start Alisson.
In any case, there’s still a ways to go until we get there, but Caoimhin is believed to have Liverpool in capable hands.
The former academy goalkeeper will get another shot in the Carabao, and a home match against West Ham could be a good avenue for advancement. Caoimh is going to have a better season, no doubt.
