Thiago Alcantara, a midfielder for Liverpool, had anticipated having a significant role for the Reds this season.
This week, Thiago has been in the headlines because of Jurgen Klopp’s admission that he won’t see the Spaniard fit until the New Year. For Thiago, it represents the most recent chapter in a trying couple of years at Liverpool.
However, a report from today’s Liverpool ECHO states that the thirty-two-year-old had anticipated a drastically different 2023–2024.
They assert that he turned off offers to depart the Reds for Saudi Arabia this summer and chose to remain in the country. According to reports, Thiago made that choice because he thought he would play a “sizeable” part for Liverpool this season.
That hasn’t shown to be the case thus far. It remains to be seen if that alters if the Reds’ dynamic midfielder is back to full health.
Thiago is still awaiting a role at Liverpool.
It’s possible that Thiago would have played a respectable role if he had been healthy and prepared for the season to begin.
Even though he hasn’t been starting every week, the former Barcelona player has contributed.
Some could even contend that Thiago remains Liverpool’s most accomplished midfield player on paper.
It’s possible that Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have since disputed that. But based just on technical attributes, we continue to believe Thiago wins.Just yesterday, Klopp referred to him as “exceptional,” and he really is.
We therefore believe that the veteran will step in and contribute once he is well. All we can do is hope he succeeds in doing so.

Given that Thiago’s contract expires in the summer, it would be unfortunate if his Liverpool career ended there.
Given the Spain international’s competitive nature, he is probably dissatisfied with the outcome at Anfield. By any measure, his time with the Reds hasn’t been awful; he’s won a few domestic cups and was named to the PFA Team of the Year in 2021–2022.
He will, however, be aware that he may have done more. That may also have played a role in his decision to turn down a lucrative move this summer. He still needs to make his case.
Let’s hope Thiago’s assessment of his position on the squad for this season turns out to be accurate over time. Hopefully, the frustration will soon be behind him.
