Following Wednesday night’s match against Bournemouth, Liverpool coach John Achterberg sent a brief but poignant note to Waturo Endo.
John Achterberg, the goalkeeping coach for Liverpool, said that Wataru Endo was “on fire” last night against Bournemouth.
At Dean Court, Endo made his fifth start for Liverpool, offering some experience in a midfield that included the inexperienced Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.
For the most part of his performance, the Japan captain was orderly and productive; he was changed at the hour. After the game, Endo posted a few pictures from the evening on Instagram. The 30-year-old wrote, “Next round,” along with a tick emoji.
Coach Achterberg, who frequently backs the players, was among those who left remarks. This time, the Dutchman shared two flame emojis for Endo to enjoy—no words necessary.
Endo becoming settled in Liverpool
After moving from Stuttgart in the summer, Endo hasn’t exactly won over Liverpool fans, it’s probably fair to say.
The Japanese player, who many would not have known about before the transfer, has had to adjust fast to a significant improvement in quality.
It has occasionally been apparent that Endo has played throughout his career at a little lesser level.
This isn’t a twenty-three or twenty-four-year-old making a move. This is an accomplished professional who needs to reassess his entire approach.
Considering everything, you have to give Endo a lot of credit.
He might have easily continued playing for Stuttgart, where he was captain, for the next few seasons, even into his thirties.
Endo, though, is obviously made of stronger material. Now that he has accepted the challenge of playing for Liverpool, he is settling into the team.
By now, it seems evident that Jurgen Klopp sees Wataru as largely a back-up option. But when given the chance, he’s gradually beginning to demonstrate that he can be trusted.
Endo will learn more the more games he plays.
Even though yesterday night wasn’t the most beautiful night, Achterberg admits that it’s still a positive development for our No. 3.
