Fixtures may present an issue, but Quansah passes the exam with “flying colours”
Following their 2-1 League Cup victory over Bournemouth, Liverpool’s mentality was commended, with two individuals in particular standing out.
The Reds defeated a resolute Bournemouth team on Wednesday night despite challenging conditions on the south coast to advance to the quarterfinals.
Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo scored the goals for Jurgen Klopp, with the latter scoring a spectacular goal, and this is a team that feels like it is headed for success.
The Reds are the favorites to win the league this season because Man City has already been eliminated and Arsenal and Manchester United were both eliminated on the same night.
This is how some of the media responded to Liverpool’s triumph.
An encounter Liverpool might have lost previous year
The bad weather that Liverpool had to deal with in the second half was emphasized by Matt Barlow of the Daily Mail:
“On the south coast, there were moments when Storm Ciaran’s squall made the weather so incredibly unpredictable that it looked like Liverpool’s Carabao Cup campaign might be derailed.”
“Cody Gakpo’s strike put Jurgen Klopp’s team up in the first half, but after the break, they were met by a gale that was blowing straight down the middle of the pitch at their goal.
Every in-swinging corner in Bournemouth appeared as though it could be caught in a wind and blown directly into the net. The guests made hilarious attempts to clear the air, swirling high into the sky and then back down again.
Before their passage was assured, there were tense moments, but it would be sufficient to propel the Merseysiders into the final eight of a tournament they had won two years prior.
Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph, meanwhile, concentrated on Nunez’s historic winning goal:
“A winner who could be considered a winner from the gods emerged from the center of the storm, regardless of the weather.
Darwin Nunez, who showed he was unfazed by ferocious gusts of wind and sideways rain on the Dorset coast, advanced to unleash a magnificent curling finish into the upper corner.
“After such a difficult few days for the club, Nunez produced his incredible intervention to secure Liverpool’s spot in the League Cup quarterfinals after just ten minutes on the field.”
Quansah was outstanding in the defensive core.
David Lynch praised Quansah’s on X.
“Tonight, Jarell Quansah was my player of the match.”
“Handled everything that Bournemouth and the weather threw at him. He also shown his exceptional skill with the ball at his feet.
“He’s just twenty!”
James Pearce, who stands out as Liverpool’s best player, expressed that sentiment on X:
Darwin Nunez will undoubtedly make headlines since he emerged victorious, but Jarell Quansah was truly exceptional. Unbelievably, this 20-year-old wide receiver is starting for just the fourth time as a senior.
It’s amazing tonight.
Mark Delgado of This Is Anfield was equally impressed:
“And although there were a few nervous moments during the second half when we were trying to pass out against the wind, all in all, it was a great performance, highlighted by a few standout performances from Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah.
“The young player handled Antoine Semanyo’s speed and dribbling prowess as well as the movement and attempts to turn made by Dominic Solanke.”
Furthermore, on multiple occasions, he was the one to break the first line by making a sharp move forward, about ten meters, creating a gap, and selecting a good pass.
“The rookie passed this test, too, passing it largely with flying colors, particularly with a crucial late header over his own crossbar.”
Fraser Watson of The Mirror was another who waxed poetic about Quansah:
With their offensive prowess, Liverpool’s early-season success in the league and cup should hardly come as a surprise—a fact that has long been associated with Klopp’s rule on Merseyside.
Despite this, many people still believe that their 2023–2024 record is exceptional considering the danger at the back that has accompanied many of their games. However, they have a man who may possibly prove to be a long-term solution to any defensive volatility in 20-year-old Jarrell Quansah, who made only his eighth club appearance.
The England Under-21 international impressed tonight with his quickness on the ground and ball handling skills. Reds supporters on social media likened him to Virgil van Dijk during the match.
“Those claims might be hurried, but if he keeps up these standards, Quansah might soon be given both League and Carabao Cup starts.”
Liverpool is seeing a surge of momentum.
Delgado was optimistic about possible League Cup success:
The Reds will anticipate victory in their upcoming Premier League encounter against Lambton Town, which will require a rare journey to Kenilworth Road.
Beyond that, the Reds’ chances of winning the EFL Cup were already slim to none; they will be even more so now that Arsenal and Manchester United both lost on the same night that we defeated the Cherries.
On their day, West Ham and Everton can be difficult opponents, but as of right now, Newcastle is the “best” remaining team.
One potential issue is that the match in the round of eight will take place between league matches versus United and Arsenal, who will now obviously not play each other in the same midweek game.
