This season, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s understudy will be chosen by Jurgen Klopp from the Liverpool academy.
For the right-back position thus far, Klopp has alternated between Joe Gomez and Alexander-Arnold; Curtis Jones even filled in for the Carabao Cup match against Leicester City.
However, after Conor Bradley recovers from his injury, the Reds manager will include the young player in the team, according to the Liverpool ECHO.
Bradley had a great season with Bolton Wanderers while on loan last year. After making an appearance in Liverpool’s preseason games, he appeared destined for a promotion to the first team in 2023–2024.
Sadly, the 20-year-old has given up on his early opportunities to play because of injuries. But according to the ECHO, Bradley is “expected” to take over as Trent’s backup once he’s well again.
Considering that the full-back’s estimated return date is just “December,” it might still be some time before we see him in action.
Bradley set for the first team role
It’s possible that Bradley’s summertime injury setback was actually a blessing in disguise.
Indeed, it meant that he had missed the first few weeks of the season, during which he most likely would have received opportunities. However, it also meant that he would undoubtedly spend the entire year at Liverpool.
It’s clear that Klopp was eager to see what Bradley could accomplish in the preseason after a fantastic showing in League One.
Despite encouraging first indications, there was a possibility that the Northern Ireland international might be judged unready. This may have led to another loan transfer.
However, as his injuries prevented him from playing, Liverpool were forced to hold onto Bradley.
Of course, no athlete wants to get hurt. The young player will probably play for the first team for the remainder of the season if he does heal by November.
The Reds really need someone who can replace Trent on domestic cup and Europa League duty since he is so important to the team.
In that regard, there are obviously great expectations for Bradley. Hopefully, we’ll see more of him shortly.
