Sandro Tonali, a midfielder for Newcastle United, has been suspended by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) for ten months for violating betting laws.
Sandro Tonali will not play for Italy if they qualify for Euro 2024, and he will not play for Newcastle United for the remainder of the current campaign.
It is anticipated that the 23-year-old Italian midfielder, who cost £55 million to transfer from AC Milan to Newcastle United in July 2023, won’t play football again until August 2024.
The Italian Football Federation’s president, Gabriele Gravina, has verified that Sandro Tonali and the federal prosecutor have worked out a plea arrangement that is anticipated to endure for eight months.
The Italy international is required to undergo therapy and make at least sixteen public appearances as part of his rehabilitation after the plea deal phase ends.
Gravina told Sky Sports Italia, “We must continue to respect the rules we have established for ourselves. The rules call for a certain number of years of suspension, but the plea bargain and extenuting circumstances have been taken into consideration and the players’ collaboration went above and beyond.”
On October 12, Tonali and fellow Italian midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo—who is now on loan at Aston Villa from Galatasaray—were notified that the Italian prosecution was looking into them and that they had to leave Italy’s training camp.
In his three seasons at San Siro, Tonali led Milan to the semifinals of the Champions League the previous year and, in the 2021–2022 season, their first Serie A championship in eleven years.
Tonali, the second-most expensive acquisition ever acquired by the Magpies, has played in 12 games for Eddie Howe’s squad.
