*BREAKING NEWS: ITALIAN TENNIS STAR “LUCA ROSSI” ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT DUE TO SERIOUS WRIST INJURY*
ROME — In an emotional press conference this morning, Italian professional tennis player Luca Rossi announced his immediate retirement from the ATP Tour at age 25, citing a serious wrist injury that will not allow him to compete at the elite level again.
Rossi, a former world No.4 and two-time Grand Slam finalist, fought back tears as he addressed fans and media in Rome.
“It’s the hardest decision of my life,” Rossi said. “After consulting with doctors and my team, the reality is my wrist cannot handle the demands of professional tennis anymore. I’ve tried everything — rehab, surgery, rest — but the pain and risk are too great. I have to listen to my body.”
The injury first appeared during the clay season. Rossi missed Wimbledon and the US Open swing while undergoing treatment. A second opinion last week confirmed permanent ligament damage.
ATP Chairman said: “Luca brought passion, fight, and Italian pride to our sport. We wish him strength in this next chapter.”
Rossi turned pro in 2018 and won 7 ATP titles. He reached the Roland Garros final in 2024 and was known for his relentless baseline game and sportsmanship.
“I’m not disappearing,” Rossi added. “I want to stay in tennis — coaching juniors in Italy, growing the sport. Thank you to my family, team, and the fans who chanted my name in every stadium.”
Tributes poured in from fellow players. The Italian Tennis Federation announced Rossi will be honored at next month’s Davis Cup tie in Bologna.
