DEAL ACCEPTED: Ipswich Town FC Complete Stunning £8.5 Million Move for Fulham Defender Issa Diop
Ipswich Town have officially strengthened their defensive ranks after completing the signing of experienced centre-back Issa Diop from Fulham in a deal worth a reported £8.5 million. The move marks another ambitious
Diop, who has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders over the years, arrives at Portman Road with a wealth of top-flight experience. The 29-year-old Frenchman enjoyed spells with Toulouse, West Ham United and Fulham, earning a reputation for his commanding aerial presence, physical strength, and calmness in possession.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna is believed to have identified Diop as one of his priority defensive targets this summer. The club had been searching for an experienced centre-back capable of leading the back line while also mentoring the younger defenders within the squad.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Diop expressed his excitement about the new challenge.
“I’m delighted to join Ipswich Town. The ambition of the club and the project presented to me made this an easy decision. I can’t wait to meet my teammates, play in front of the supporters, and help the club achieve its goals.”
The arrival of Diop is expected to add both leadership and stability to an Ipswich defence that has been strengthened significantly during the transfer window. His ability to read the game, dominate in the air, and remain composed under pressure should provide an immediate boost.
Supporters have reacted enthusiastically to the announcement across social media, with many describing the signing as one of the club’s biggest statements in recent years. Fans believe Diop’s Premier League pedigree could prove invaluable as Ipswich look to establish themselves among England’s elite.
Club officials also welcomed the defender, praising both his character and experience.
“Issa is a player we’ve admired for a long time,” an Ipswich representative said. “His quality, professionalism, and leadership qualities make him an outstanding addition to our squad. We’re delighted to have secured his signature.”
With the deal now completed, attention turns to pre-season preparations as Diop begins training with his new teammates. Expectations are high that the French defender will slot straight into McKenna’s starting lineup and become a cornerstone of Ipswich’s defence.
The £8.5 million signing underlines Ipswich Town’s determination to continue progressing, sending a clear message that the club intends to compete with confidence and ambition in the coming campaign.
