Lakers Make NBA History in Shocking Statistic During Tuesday’s Win Over Grizzlies

In LA’s dominant win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night, they set both franchise and NBA records for their 3-point efficiency.
The Lakers were a terrible 3-point shooting team prior to this game (and might be bad again going forward) but for what it’s worth, tying a franchise record for 3-pointers made, as well as setting the mark for 3-point percentage by a team with 35+ attempts in a game, doesn’t happen randomly.
We’ve known that Austin Reaves has been slumping, and players like Rui Hachimura haven’t been able to get into grooves due to limited minutes, so last night’s game was a great way to get everyone going as we hit the heart of the season.
Prior to opening night and throughout the offseason, the Lakers rotation was expected to have shooters everywhere (besides LeBron, AD, and Vanderbilt), featuring 5-6 guys who have the potential to (or already have in their career) shoot 40-plus percent from behind the arc.
As such, the team being 29th in 3-point shooting likely isn’t as accurate a reflection on their abilities going forward as it may seem, and this historic outing is demonstrative of what they’re capable of.
While it’s unlikely that they can put up anywhere near historic numbers, it’s safe to expect them to be at least league average, as the high-volume shooters on the roster are all more than capable of continuing to produce at a respectable level.
LA takes on the Kings on Wednesday, who’ve always given them trouble. To stay competitive with their fast-paced offense, they’ll need to shoot well. Let’s see if they can keep it up.
