After making streak snaps, Christian McCaffrey apologises to the wagerers.
McCaffrey’s touchdown prop had been successful in 17 straight games coming into Sunday.
In Sunday’s decisive 49ers victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Christian McCaffrey came just short of making history.
McCaffrey entered the game having scored a touchdown in 17 straight games, but he was unable to find the end zone against the Jaguars, despite San Francisco’s best attempts. He would have beaten the record for the most straight touchdowns with eighteen games left.
It also meant the end of a winning run for NFL wagerers. The 49ers star also had a humorous message for his supporters who never stop applauding after a touchdown is scored.
McCaffrey expressed regret over and over for not scoring, per ESPN Bet. “I failed you,” I disregarded your trust in me.
In Week 10, McCaffrey was -250 to score a touchdown against the Jaguars, despite the oddsmakers’ best attempts to dissuade bettors from taking a chance, according to John Ewing of BetMGM. McCaffrey was listed as -320 to score around the end of September; yeah, the prop had gotten ridiculous.
According to NBC Sports Bay Area, McCaffrey smiled and told reporters, “Yeah, I suck,” after the game. “Everyone on the team scored, excluding me.”
McCaffrey and the 49ers take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11. Even though Tampa Bay has allowed the sixth-fewest running touchdowns thus far this season, it seems sense to believe that even though McCaffrey’s run is finished, oddsmakers will still be thinking about it.
