Just now: Palace vs Ipswich Town Match has Just been postponed Due to….
League match between Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town, scheduled to kick off this afternoon at Selhurst Park, has been postponed at short notice.
The decision was made jointly by the Premier League, both clubs, the Metropolitan Police, and local safety authorities due to *major rail disruption and severe flooding across South London*.
Heavy overnight rain caused the River Pool and local drainage systems to overflow. Several key routes around Selhurst, including parts of Whitehorse Lane and Brighton Road, are currently closed. Network Rail also confirmed that Southern Rail and Thameslink services into East Croydon and Norwood Junction have been suspended after track flooding and signal failures.
“The safety of supporters, players, staff and emergency services must come first,” a Premier League spokesperson said. “With thousands of Ipswich fans travelling down today and significant travel issues reported, it was not possible to safely stage the fixture.”
Crystal Palace released a statement saying stewards and emergency services advised against admitting a full crowd of 25,000 to Selhurst Park. In addition, a small section of the Holmesdale Stand was affected by water ingress overnight and requires inspection before the next game.
All tickets for today’s match will remain valid for the rearranged fixture. Fans who cannot attend the new date will be offered a full refund through the club’s ticket office. The Premier League said it will confirm a new date within the next 72 hours in consultation with broadcasters and both clubs.
Both managers expressed disappointment but understanding. “We wanted to play, but you can’t put people at risk,” said the Palace boss. The Ipswich manager added: “The safety of our supporters coming from Suffolk comes first.”
