BREAKING: Bengals vs Bears Preseason Game Postponed
Cincinnati, OH — The NFL preseason matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears, originally scheduled for August 23rd at Paycor Stadium, has been officially postponed.

The league and both teams announced the decision early Thursday morning, citing unforeseen circumstances that made it impossible to proceed with the game as planned.
In a joint statement, the Bengals and Bears said: “Player safety and the integrity of the preseason schedule remain our top priorities. After consultation with the NFL, we have agreed to postpone the August 23rd preseason contest. We apologize to fans for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”
### Why was it postponed?
While the teams did not give full details, sources close to the situation point to a combination of factors. Severe weather in the Cincinnati area in the 48 hours leading up to kickoff left the field and surrounding facilities in need of additional evaluation. At the same time, both organizations are dealing with minor roster and travel logistics issues coming out of joint practices earlier this week.
The NFL confirmed that no competitive advantage is gained by either team, and that the decision was made with medical and operations staff from both clubs.
### What happens next?
The league says it is working with both the Bengals and Bears to identify a new date. Options being discussed include shifting the game to the final weekend of the preseason, or converting it into a closed joint practice if a makeup date cannot be found.
Tickets for the August 23rd game will remain valid for the rescheduled date. Fans who cannot attend the new date will be eligible for refunds at the point of purchase. The Bengals also announced that Paycor Stadium gates and parking plans for the 23rd are cancelled.
### What it means for both teams
For Cincinnati, this was supposed to be a key evaluation game for backup quarterbacks and young players fighting for roster spots. Head Coach Zac Taylor said the team will pivot to intrasquad work this week to keep player development on track.
For Chicago, Coach Ben Johnson called it “a bump in the road, not a roadblock,” noting the Bears will use the extra time to get healthier before their final preseason tune-up.
