John Obi Mikel, a former player for Chelsea, talks about what he’s noticed so far this season regarding Mo Salah of Liverpool.
Mohamed Salah, a forward for Liverpool, has started the season “back to his old self.”
It should come as no surprise that Salah leads the Reds in scoring with 10 goals in all competitions. Following a dismal campaign for Liverpool in 2023–2024, Mo is poised to lead them to greater heights.
A former Chelsea midfielder named John Obi Mikel also thinks the Egyptian is getting “sharper.”
On The Obi One Podcast, Mikel was asked to identify the Premier League’s most crucial player. He brought up Salah, but in the end, he decided to go with Rodri of Manchester City.
“With all due respect to these athletes,” the Nigerian remarked. “Erling Haaland is prospering tremendously. Salah is spot on; he appears to be returning to his former self. He’s scoring goals now, and his movement is noticeably more precise.
“But yes, Rodri deserves recognition; he’s been outstanding.”
Salah performing at his peak
While it’s true that Salah has once again been among the nation’s most vital players this season, we disagree with Mikel in this particular area.
It’s not like Mo has been away from home. The 31-year-old had a challenging start to the previous campaign but had a fantastic finish.
Salah has never been below par for an extended stretch of time. Nothing, therefore, to “return” to.
Mo has often been among the Premier League’s best players ever since he joined Liverpool. It’s also arguable that Rodri might be significantly more crucial to Man City, even though we might have to give that up.
City does suffer without the Spaniard, as evidenced by their recent collapse while he was suspended. For instance, we are aware that they will still score goals in the absence of Haaland, but Rodri’s contribution is irreplaceable.
The same could be said of Salah for Liverpool. Nobody at Anfield has ever been able to match his incredible skill at both scoring and providing an assist.
Even without him, the Reds’ roster still has players who can score goals and are creative.
In any case, the main point is that Salah is outstanding this season, and even though he has had a few quiet games, that isn’t up for discussion.
