Rashan Gary of the Green Bay Packers fined
On Sunday, in an effort to sack quarterback Brett Rypien, Gary snatched up the face mask and bent the helmet. Although the play resulted in a penalty call for him, the league decided that additional punishment was warranted. The fine was imposed because the penalty was under the league’s “gameday accountability” policy. Gary was fined $10,927 by the league for the act. He joins a long number of Packers players who have been penalised this season, making him the sixth. This is infuriating supporters.
Overly rough layers are subject to fines. While some are necessary, others are perplexing. The quantity of running backs who have received fines has increased dramatically. Fans watching the play don’t seem to perceive anything sinister, despite the league’s apparent attempts to crack down on helmet lowering. It’s the NFL. A certain amount of physicality is inevitable. While I support removing malicious hits, football plays shouldn’t be punished.
The goal of the Green Bay Packers is to go on a brief winning run. Under Joe Barry, Rashan Gary’s team is playing some of its greatest football yet thanks to his return to his dominant form. On Sunday, the team takes on the Steelers.
