Federico Redondo of Argentinos Juniors may be being considered for a signing by Liverpool, an unidentified Premier League team.
Andre of Fluminense has emerged as the top contender for the defensive midfield position that the Reds are now looking for in recent months.
However, as it was revealed yesterday that Liverpool is not going to sign Andre, alternative options are now being considered. The Brazilian journalist Emmanuel Luiz suggests that Redondo might be one of those choices. He said this on Wednesday to The Redmen TV.
The reporter answers, “I’ll tell you what I know about Federico Redondo; he plays for Argentinos Juniors.” “He is considered by Fluminense as Andre’s replacement. Maybe it’s just the athlete’s manager, but Redondo is currently being considered for a purchase or loan by the major six [Premier League] clubs.
They told me that Fluminense had a good chance of acquiring Redondo if they sold Andre. However, teams like Wolves and Fulham are currently looking to maybe acquire Redondo. Teams from the Big Six, including Tottenham and Liverpool, are also considering him. I’m not sure which team they are.
“I think Liverpool will bring in a South American defensive midfielder.” At the moment, Andre, Federico Redondo, and [Gabriel] Moscardo from Corinthians are the three most prominent names.
Redondo as a Liverpool option
It’s intriguing that Liverpool wants to find their next defensive midfield hero in South America. Naturally, Fabinho, their previous destroyer, is from the continent; perhaps they wish to replicate that kind of success.
It’s difficult to deny that Andre is currently the most improved and well-developed member of that group.
The 22-year-old, who won the Copa Libertadores and is now a full international for Brazil, appears prepared to move to Europe.
It begs the question of why Liverpool would believe Redondo or Moscardo are more appropriate if they decide not to press forward with their attempt to recruit him.

Nevertheless, Redondo is obviously a very gifted player. Fernando, his father, was a playmaker for Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Argentina who had a fluid, deep lying style. Federico has genes that make him someone to watch.
There are early indications that the young man shares some traits with his father. Still, it’s difficult to determine his genuine skill given that he has played for Argentinos Juniors in fewer than 60 games.
But Liverpool shouldn’t linger if they believe he has what it takes to become a premier player.
Alexis Mac Allister was educated at the same academy where Redondo hails. The Reds should not hesitate to sign Federico if there’s a chance he has comparable talent.
