A new chant appeared to be introduced by Liverpool supporters in honour of Luis Diaz during Sunday’s draw with Luton Town.
Liverpool had a sad evening as they were unable to take advantage of the losses this weekend by teams like Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Still, out of an otherwise dull game, there was one moment at least to cherish. With his father still in custody following a horrible abduction in Colombia, Diaz was the man everyone was hoping to score a point off of. The 26-year-old fulfilled his duty.
And as can be seen in the most recent “Inside” series film posted on Liverpool’s YouTube site, Diaz was a highly well-liked goal scorer.
At full time, the travelling Kop were seen by the LFCTV cameras serenading their struggling hero. Fans yelled “Diaz, Diaz, Diaz” as the Liverpool players approached the away end, echoing their usual song for fellow forward Darwin Nunez.
A little while later, there is also a chant to the song “Just Can’t Get Enough” by Depeche Mode. The old Luis Suarez chant from back in the day was simply rearranged, as those with sharp memory would recall. Maybe it won’t adhere. Still, it was a kind gift for a man going through a really trying moment.
Diaz feels the love
Naturally, Liverpool supporters don’t really care who scores goals for the team. The team has more potential goal scorers this season than ever before.
Who puts it in the net doesn’t really matter, especially in dire circumstances like the one on Sunday.
But Diaz had to be the one at Kenilworth Road.
The narrative of Lucho’s father over the previous few weeks is the kind that brings together fans from all walks of life. Whatever team you play for, you can’t help but cheer for Liverpool’s number seven.
Against that background, a football game is obviously useless. However, as some of Diaz’s teammates have pointed out, Lucho finds that being a part of the squad serves as a useful diversion.
Hopefully, hearing the supporters sing his name during this trying time in his life will serve as a reminder to him that the entire Liverpool community is rooting for him.
Let’s hope that Diaz receives positive news soon. We have a suspicion that Reds fans will continue to bring up his name in the interim.
Liverpool fans appear to have come up with new Luis Diaz chant after his goal against Luton
Liverpool fans appeared to debut a new chant dedicated to Luis Diaz during Sunday’s draw with Luton Town.
It was a disappointing evening for Liverpool, as they failed to capitalise on the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur losing this weekend.
Nevertheless, there was at least one moment to treasure from an otherwise frustrating game. Still awaiting the release of his father after an horrific kidnapping in Colombia, Diaz was the man everyone wanted to score. The 26-year-old duly delivered.
And as seen on the latest video of the ‘Inside’ series on Liverpool’s YouTube channel today, Diaz was a very popular goal-scorer.
The LFCTV cameras captured the travelling Kop serenading their beleaguered hero at full-time. With the Liverpool players approaching the away end, fans chanted ‘Diaz, Diaz, Diaz,’ in the manner they often use to salute fellow forward Darwin Nunez.
Fast-forward a little, and a chant to the tune of Depeche Mode’s ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ can also be heard. Those with keen memories will know that this was purely a rearrangement of the old Luis Suarez chant from back in the day. Perhaps it won’t stick. But it was a nice gesture for a man going through the toughest of times all the same.
Diaz feels the love
Of course, fans don’t usually mind all that much who gets on the scoresheet for Liverpool. This season more than ever the team has plenty of potential goal-getters.
It doesn’t really matter who ends up sticking it in the net, especially in desperate situations like the one on Sunday.
But at Kenilworth Road, it simply had to be Diaz.
Lucho’s father’s story over the past couple of weeks is the kind that unites fans of all backgrounds. No matter who you support, you surely can’t help but be rooting for Liverpool’s No.7.
Obviously, a game of football is meaningless against that backdrop. But as a few of Diaz’s teammates have mentioned, being involved with the team is providing a good distraction for Lucho.
To hear the fans chanting his name during such a difficult personal period will hopefully remind him that the whole of the Liverpool family is with him.
Fingers crossed we get good news for Diaz very soon. In the meantime, we suspect this won’t be the last time his name gets an airing from the Reds supporters.
