Is Darwin Nunez beginning to earn Liverpool’s faith as their primary striker going ahead?
Nunez has been in and out of the Liverpool team a lot since joining for a large number of money in the summer of 2022 despite coming from Benfica.
This season, the Uruguayan started the year on the bench, continuing the trend. However, Darwin has pushed his way onto the team in the weeks and months that have passed.
Nunez is now considered Liverpool’s top striker, according to former Reds defender Jamie Carragher, who made this claim on Sky Sports Monday Night Football last night.
Darwin Nunez is starting to feel like he’s Liverpool’s number nine going forward, the commentator said.
Liverpool decides on Darwin.
It had been very clear-cut before Sunday that Carragher has the right perspective. Nunez appears to be the guy leading Jurgen Klopp’s best XI presently, following a somewhat difficult start to the season.
The 24-year-old looked to have transcended the shadow of a hit-or-miss debut season at Liverpool with goals and assists coming in plenty.
But the away draw against Luton Town demonstrated why that may still be debatable.
To be fair to Carragher, he didn’t think it would change Klopp’s perspective because he was speaking following the game on Sunday.
However, the Uruguayan international’s inability to convert some of his opportunities at Kenilworth Road raises concerns about his suitability that have long existed.

For the record, Darwin continues to be the choice for Liverpool in the long run. He must, however, stop making the simple mistakes.
It is unacceptable that Mohamed Salah’s unintentional knock-down resulted in an open net miss. That separated Liverpool from taking three points as opposed to only one. And it still occurs far too frequently.
Still, Nunez offers considerably more benefits than drawbacks. He ought to be able to continue developing while starting for Liverpool as long as that is the case.
