Lakers-Magic lessons learned: Several things went wrong during the defeat.
With 28 points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocked shots, Lakers forward Anthony Davis drives the baseline while being guarded by Magic centre Goga Bitadze.
“Well, I would,” Davis remarked. “The scouting report says to attack the glass and flee quickly. That has, after all, been our greatest weakness. We’re going to lose games because of that. We recognise the issue. It has to be fixed.
Second-chance points have been outscored 117-54 for the Lakers.
LeBron James remarked, “We have to figure it out because that has definitely been our trend.” “Offensive rebounds and points from errors. We perform a decent job of stopping them on the opening possession, but we give up offensive rebounds, which gives them the opportunity to score. Thus, we need to handle that more effectively and cover it up.
rapidly slipping behind
If rebounding wasn’t the issue, the Lakers suffered a setback on Saturday due to a well-known issue. The squad trailed by at least 10 points in the first quarter for the fifth time in the last six games.
Only their endeavour. Their vigour. Their bodies are down. We have fallen bodies. Thus, Ham stated, “the game basically boils down to approach, mental approach.” “They outworked us with their effort and energy.” And as a result of their effort and energy, they witnessed the ball enter. They performed an excellent job of simply playing quickly without stopping, defensively covering for one another, and hammering us on the glass.
The Lakers’ coach, Darvin Ham, had a lot to say following their Saturday night loss to Orlando.
Cam Reddish had trouble in Orlando despite contributing significantly to the Lakers’ victory on Thursday. However, he was not by alone.
It appears to be our energy. According to Davis, other teams are showing up and acting a little more aggressively. It’s not even a talent or skill. It’s 50-50 balls, offensive rebounds, and turnovers that result in transition points. Those are the plays that depress us. To begin the fourth quarter with the mindset that we will be in control of those things, we have to address those issues. It’s difficult to beat us anytime we limit a team to one shot. However, we haven’t succeeded in doing so.
Coming reinforcements?
Following the game, Ham announced that Taurean Prince and Rui Hachimura would be evaluated on Sunday. This could perhaps pave the path for one or both of them to return to the court on Monday when they play the Heat in Miami.
“Having a larger frame really helps. We have injuries to three of our larger bodies right now: Rui, [Jarred Vanderbilt], and TP. Thus, it would be beneficial, James said. “However, we must undoubtedly improve our assistance when we do box out. Occasionally, when we’re doubling guys, a free crasher arrives to smash the glass. We may give up offensive rebounds while only observing the ball. Therefore, we need to examine that in the movie and determine how we might improve.
Not a good day for Russell
One of the players who spoke out the loudest to Austin Reaves to help him get past his early-season slump was D’Angelo Russell.
Reaves said he would be happy to repay the favour if needed after Russell made a one-for-ten three-pointer on Saturday.
Magic guard Anthony Black, left, tries to stop Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell from driving on Saturday. Russell missed nine of his ten attempts from outside the arc.
I don’t have to say anything to DLo, which is one thing about him. Of course I do. Reaves stated, “Despite our close bond and development of a partnership both on and off the court, one thing DLo lacks is confidence. Sometimes, I think it’s amazing to witness because certain individuals would definitely be better off if everyone exuded that kind of confidence. However, I don’t believe he had a poor game tonight. had trouble aiming the ball. But it does occur.
And many others will go back and criticise him for the game he played, but that’s all there is to it. There is no concern about him.
When Reaves returns, James continues to roll.
Following a terrific second half in the Lakers’ victory over the Clippers, Reaves scored 20 points on seven of his eleven shots, including three three-pointers, on Saturday, maybe his greatest offensive performance of the year.
Really, all I was doing was playing the game the way I always have. assured. Play hard, please. and act appropriately,” Reaves remarked. “Yes, that is the truth.”
James and Reaves were the only Lakers to have a positive plus-minus at the end of their 35 minutes of play.
With James on the court, the Lakers have outscored opponents by 57 points, including his 24 points on Saturday.
