Prior to yesterday’s deadline, the San Francisco 49ers made a number of roster cuts in order to reduce their roster to 53 players. Many of those players were probably in the team’s sights, with the hope that they would clear waivers and rejoin the practise squad.
To the 49ers’ certain dismay, three of those players were claimed by other teams and will not be coming back.
The offensive lineman Keith Ismael and Ilm Manning were claimed by the Arizona Cardinals, who now have them on their 53-man roster.
Surprise undrafted rookie D’Shawn Jamison is headed to the Carolina Panthers’ 53-man roster.
“He has definitely made strides from the spring and just came back and built on to his repertoire and just his toolbox,” defensive coordinator Steve Wilks said earlier this month. “I think the one thing that he’s doing with his technique, he’s staying more square in his backpedal, which is allowing him to be able to see and visualize more of the field, route concepts, see the quarterback.
“And he’s doing a great job of breaking on the ball, his man-to-man technique. He’s great at the line of scrimmage, and he’s doing a good job at the top end of the route—the point of emphasis that I talk about all the time. That’s where we got to win. So you see him doing a lot of good things.”
Meanwhile, the 49ers didn’t make any waiver claims.
