This season, Liverpool is subtly introducing itself as a serious contender for the title.
This season, the Reds are very much in the running for first place on the Premier League table. After ten games, with 23 points, they are only three points behind the current leaders, Tottenham Hotspur.
Furthermore, Liverpool may potentially provide a “problem” for their championship opponents, according to Ian Wright of Optus Sports’ The Kelly & Wrighty Show.
“We are aware that Liverpool is capable of navigating a season in which they chase City,” Wright said. Now that they’ve figured out their midfield, if they keep becoming better the way they are, I believe it will rank among the best.
It seems like people are moving away from Liverpool, in my opinion, given the amount of noise made by Tottenham, Arsenal, and City. They have everything in every area to keep pushing the envelope covertly, so they should be content with that.
Liverpool would undoubtedly be a huge issue for everyone if they did manage to find themselves in and around it.
Liverpool is sneaking under the radar
Wright’s evaluation of Liverpool’s current situation is spot on. The Reds are quietly going about their business while Tottenham, Arsenal, and of course City are receiving all the attention.
Even talk of fifth-place Aston Villa mounting an improbable title challenge has surfaced.
However, following their miserable campaign in 2018, Liverpool has all but been written off as a possible rival to Man City.
10 games in, and there are perhaps a few murmurings that Jurgen Klopp may have brought Liverpool back to life. However, it appears that everyone believes they will eventually disappear for the time being.
But as Wright rightly notes, Klopp is the only manager who has persevered in the face of City.
Some players have changed since then, but some have remained the same, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk.
These players will be driven to make up for the mistakes they made the previous season because they have achieved success with the team.
Let’s watch how Villa, Spurs, and Arsenal handle the heat of the limelight. Liverpool will be perfectly content to hum along in the background.
