As if the Baltimore Ravens needed any more reason to dislike the Pittsburgh Steelers, their former second-team All-Pro linebacker Patrick Queen signed with the AFC North rival in free agency, and he hasn’t stopped talking smack ever since.
Queen made headlines in early June after telling The Athletic that everything in Pittsburgh — from the atmosphere to the people — is better than it was in Baltimore.
This understandably upset some of his former teammates, including cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who stated on his “Punch Line Podcast” that the novelty will wear off soon and Queen will realize things weren’t so bad in Baltimore.
“I’m not hating on Pittsburgh or hating on [Queen], but I’ve been with the Ravens for a while; I’ve seen this same story go down with a lot of guys,” Humphrey said. “’It’s the best place on earth. This new place, it’s not like the Ravens.’ Reality sets in eventually. I hope it’s great over there. But you know, sometimes, I’m just saying, I’ve seen it once or twice.”
Not one to let someone else get the final word in, Queen responded via social media with a video of himself watering his lawn and indulging in a beverage, sending a symbolic “the grass is greener” message back Humphrey’s way.
A few other things Queen has said that have rubbed his former team the wrong way include stating his desire to win was why he took less money to leave Baltimore for Pittsburgh and his admission that he’s ready to “embrace the villain” role in the Steelers-Ravens rivalry.
Queen, 24, was the Ravens’ second-leading tackler last season (133) behind Roquan Smith (158.) He was tied for the third-most tackles for loss (nine) and he added six passes defensed, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
