Seahawks Blasts Steelers
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Steelers are getting rid of the last remaining urinal troughs in the stadium, the retro men’s restroom fixtures that need a certain amount of self-assurance and little aim.
The team’s proposal to install 97 standard urinals with partitions in lieu of the urinal troughs in the four men’s toilets on the top level of the stadium was authorized by the board members of the Sports and Exhibition Authority on Thursday.
The work is the last stage of a campaign to get rid of the troughs.
The Steelers upgraded twelve toilets at their North Shore stadium last year, spending $1.4 million on the project. Among them were four men’s facilities on the top level, two on the east and two on the west, where troughs were replaced with 95 urinals with partitions.
Included in the expenditure was a new floor covering for them as well as the eight women’s facilities on the higher level.
The group plans to build the 97 urinals and remove the remaining troughs for a total of $800,000. The stadium’s upper north, west, and east sides are home to the toilets. They’ll get fresh floor coating as well.
The work will be finished by SSM Industries, Avalotis, and Mascaro Construction. By early summer, the Steelers intend to have the new urinals installed. All of the labor is being covered by them.
On Friday night, T.J. and J.J. Watt attended the comedian Sebastian Maniscalco’s show in Las Vegas.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, he supported T.J. Watt for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Florio is one of the fifty voters on the Associated Press panel.
Florio noted, “Garrett was phenomenal, but in the end, sacks are sacks, and Watt had too many more to ignore.”
One vote for NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Year went to Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. Porter was ranked third on Florio’s list. The winner was defensive end Will Anderson Jr. of the Houston Texans.
“A strong argument was presented to me by someone suggesting that Porter should have received some recognition for his rookie season play and impact on a very strong Pittsburgh defense,” Florio wrote.
Pro Football Talk: James Brown, the host of NFL Today, has inked a new two-year contract, according to a recent story by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic. He will presumably still headline the CBS Sunday pregame show. It’s unclear who the other members of the ensemble are surrounding the 72-year-old Brown. According to Marchand, the contracts of all other full-time commentators are up for renewal, including Nate Burleson, who, considering his position on CBS This Morning, may end up becoming the largest media free agent in sports history. After Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, the contracts of Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason, and former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher expire.
Running back Shaun Alexander of the Seattle Seahawks is still reflecting about the Super Bowl XL defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, over twenty years later. Alexander believes that the Seahawks’ loss was an exception.
“We probably would have lost one if we had played the Steelers 100 times,” Alexander stated on the Big Al and JoJo program on KOA Sports Radio. And it was the right one that evening. We understood that if we accomplished these three things, we wouldn’t be able to play with them. Avoid giving up the ball, committing offensive fouls, and allowing them to make any major plays. A 50-yard reverse throw for a score and an 80-yard run at the start of the third quarter would result from going in reverse order.
We knew they wouldn’t be able to drive.”
Happy Birthday to former Steelers offensive tackle Wayne Gandy, born on February 10, 1971 in Haines City, Florida. After five seasons with the Rams, Gandy signed with Pittsburgh as a free agent and started 63 games at left tackle over four seasons. After his tenure with the Steelers, Gandy played three seasons in New Orleans and three in Atlanta before calling it a career.
