Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields did not suffer a severe hamstring injury during practice, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports. Fields popped up as questionable on the injury report on Sunday in a surprise move. He tweaked it during the week but did not miss any practice time. Glazer said the team would need an MRI to determine how bad the injury is, but it seems it is not.
Rapoport states that the Steelers will decide what to do with Fields and his role against the New York Giants on Monday as he tests his hamstring out before the game. They will likely be more cautious with him, which could have him relegated to the emergency third quarterback role in case Russell Wilson and Kyle Allen get injured.
Glazer reported that the Steelers had plans for Fields against the Giants where they would utilize his mobility in special packages. That had been discussed heavily by head coach Mike Tomlin and others for certain games, and it seems the Steelers could implement those packages at some point, but it will unlikely be this week with the injury.
