PITTSBURGH — Standout rookie offensive lineman Troy Fautanu suffered a ‘little tweak’ in Friday’s practice, according to tackle Broderick Jones. Fautanu left the field early, and his status for Sunday is unknown. He will get an MRI after practice.
“Troy had a little tweak today, so we don’t really know what his status is going to be,” Jones said. “I filled in for him and we’ll go from there after he gets his MRI. We’ll just figure what is going on from there.”
Jones said he did not see what happened to Fautanu when he suffered the injury. Fautanu suffered an MCL sprain against the Houston Texans on August 9 but returned in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. He started in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos after being healthy.
Jones was benched after registering three penalties in six plays against the Broncos. He admitted that he did not play well but is ready to bounce back. Jones feels like the work that he has put in this week is positive. If he does have to play, Jones is confident in his abilities.
Fautanu has a day of rest to recoup from whatever the injury was that occurred in practice. The Steelers will list his status on Friday’s injury report.
