Maxwell Lewis from the G-League has been called up by the Los Angeles Lakers for their in-season tournament match against the Memphis Grizzles on Tuesday night, according to Ryan Ward of Lakers Nation.
Lewis won’t play a lot of minutes in this game—if any at all—but it seems like the Lakers will have access to him. Lewis has played in just three NBA games this season, logging a total of 13 minutes of play despite frequently switching between the G-League and the NBA.
In a loss to the Rip City Remix on Saturday, Lewis scored 13 points in his 28 minutes of action for the South Bay Lakers. Lewis’ recall from the G-League made sense because the South Bay Lakers don’t play again until Friday, even if it’s unlikely that he would play rotational minutes with Los Angeles.
Though it can be a difficult struggle for young athletes, many late round picks like Lewis must make the switch from the NBA to the G-League. Luckily for the Lakers, players may travel up and down more easily because of the proximity of their G-League club. Most NBA and G-League teams are set up like this, albeit some commutes to Downtown Los Angeles are less convenient than El Segundo.
