‘We Believe We Can Compete With Anyone’: Lane Kiffin Talks Bold Mindset and Sky-High Confidence as Ole Miss Football Prepares for 2025 Season
As the 2025 college football season approaches, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin isn’t holding back his expectations. Entering his sixth year at the helm of the Rebels, Kiffin is setting the tone early with a message rooted in boldness, belief, and a desire to compete at the highest level.
“We believe we can compete with anyone,” Kiffin said during SEC Media Days this week. “That’s not just talk — that’s how we’re approaching every single day. The standard is high, and our guys have bought in.”
The Rebels are coming off a strong 2024 campaign that saw them finish with a 10-3 record and a bowl victory over Penn State. With a roster loaded with returning talent, elite transfers, and key coaching staff continuity, expectations are sky-high in Oxford. Much of the optimism stems from the confidence Kiffin has instilled in his players, a mindset he says starts in the offseason.
“We don’t spend time worrying about rankings or preseason polls,” Kiffin said. “What matters is how we prepare — in the weight room, in film study, and when it’s time to take the field. Confidence comes from preparation.”
One of the most anticipated storylines heading into the season is the continued growth of quarterback Jaxson Dart, who returns for his senior year after throwing for over 3,500 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2024. With a deeper offensive line and a talented receiving corps that includes returning star Tre Harris and a few breakout transfers, the Rebels could feature one of the most explosive offenses in the SEC.
Defensively, Ole Miss made strides in 2024, and Kiffin believes this year’s unit will be even more physical and disciplined under defensive coordinator Pete Golding. “We’re faster, we’re smarter, and we’ve got depth in places where we didn’t a year ago,” Kiffin said.
While the SEC schedule remains as brutal as ever — including marquee matchups against Alabama, Georgia, and Texas — Kiffin sees opportunity rather than obstacles.
“This league is as tough as it gets, but that’s why you come here — to compete with the best,” he said. “We’re not backing down from anyone.”
With confidence, continuity, and a proven leader at the helm, Ole Miss is aiming to turn belief into results in 2025.
