‘We Believe We Can Compete With Anyone’: Hugh Freeze Talks Bold Mindset and Sky-High Confidence as Tigers Prepare for 2025 Season
As the 2025 college football season draws closer, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is making one thing crystal clear: the Tigers are done playing it safe. In a recent media appearance, Freeze shared an inside look at the team’s mindset, praising what he called a “noticeable shift” in confidence and culture inside the locker room.
“We believe we can compete with anyone,” Freeze said. “There’s a different energy around this team right now — from the veterans to the younger guys. They’ve bought into the process, and more importantly, they believe in each other.”
That belief has been years in the making. In his third season leading the Tigers, Freeze has overseen a significant rebuild. While the 2024 season showed flashes of growth, the program is aiming higher in 2025. Much of the optimism centers around increased leadership, physical development, and the comfort that comes with more time in the system.
Freeze credits the offseason for much of the change. Auburn players attacked the strength and conditioning program with intensity, and multiple returning starters have reported personal bests in both speed and strength. Perhaps more importantly, there’s been a visible increase in accountability across the roster.
“The talent was always there,” Freeze added. “But now they’re starting to understand what it takes to win consistently in the SEC. That’s where the real confidence comes from — preparation.”
The Tigers return several key playmakers on both sides of the ball, including standout linebacker Eugene Asante and rising quarterback Walker White, who Freeze praised for his command of the offense and leadership qualities. New additions via the transfer portal have also given the team more depth and competition at multiple positions.
While Freeze stopped short of making bold predictions, he made it clear the expectations are rising — internally and externally.
“This league doesn’t give you anything,” Freeze said. “But I like where we are. I like how we’re working. And I know this team believes in what we’re building.”
With fall camp around the corner and a challenging schedule ahead, the Tigers are gearing up for a season where confidence might be their most dangerous weapon.
“We’re not backing down from anybody,” Freeze said. “We’re coming to play.”
