NEVER CLAIMED PERFECTION: USC Trojans Football Head Coach Lincoln Riley Vows to Clean Up Mistakes, Calls on Fans to Stand Behind Him
In the wake of a turbulent stretch for the USC Trojans football program, Head Coach Lincoln Riley is taking full accountability and vowing to lead the team back to the standards fans expect. Speaking candidly at a recent press conference, Riley addressed growing frustration from the Trojan faithful, acknowledging the program’s shortcomings while urging supporters to remain united.
“I’ve never claimed perfection,” Riley said. “But what I can promise is that no one is working harder than we are to correct our mistakes and move forward.”
After entering the season with high expectations, USC has faced intense scrutiny over defensive lapses, inconsistent performances, and missed opportunities in key games. Once considered a contender for the College Football Playoff, the Trojans have struggled to maintain momentum, leading to questions about the team’s direction and Riley’s leadership. Still, the second-year USC coach remains firm in his belief that the foundation being built is the right one — even if it hasn’t produced immediate results.
“This is a process. It’s about building something strong, not just flashy,” Riley said. “We’ve had setbacks. I own that. But it’s on me and this coaching staff to turn those setbacks into growth.”
Riley emphasized that internal accountability has never wavered within the team. He cited player development, recruiting gains, and cultural growth within the locker room as signs of a program still on the rise. At the same time, he made it clear that moral victories aren’t the goal — winning is.
“We came here to win championships. That hasn’t changed. The fans deserve that, and we’re going to deliver it,” Riley said.
He also called on USC supporters to remain passionate and loyal, even through the bumps in the road.
“We need you. We feel the energy in the Coliseum — the noise, the pride, the tradition,” he said. “When things don’t go our way, that’s when we need our fans the most.”
As the Trojans look to finish the season strong and prepare for the move to the Big Ten, all eyes will remain on Riley and his ability to course-correct. The journey hasn’t been perfect, but if the head coach’s words are any indication, the fight is far from over.
