Juan Carlos Ferrero reveals some secrets about Carlos Alcara
Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero have a very deep relationship, which has lasted for many years now. The former Spanish ace has been fundamental to Carlitos’ growth both on and off the court, having transmitted important values to him as a result of his long experience on the ATP tour.
As of the start of the 2025 season, Ferrero is no longer the sole coach of the 4-time Grand Slam champion. Samuel Lopez – former coach of Pablo Carreno Busta – has joined the team and allowed Ferrero to spend more time with his family.
Lopez followed Alcaraz to Rotterdam and Doha, while JC remained in Spain and will return with his protégé to Indian Wells early next month.
During the off-season, Ferrero and Lopez worked with Carlitos in several aspects. Their work has focused mainly on improving the serve, but they have also helped the Spaniard to grow mentally to limit those ups and downs that have characterized his career so far.
Ferrero on helping Carlitos
During an event organized in Spain, Ferrero reflected on the way he has educated Carlos over the years: “Being an exceptional player doesn’t mean you have to think you’re better than everyone else and treat them disrespectfully. It takes the ability to sacrifice and the will to improve every single day, otherwise it is impossible to stay at the top for many years.
These values have been passed on to him by his family since Carlos was a child and I have tried to do the same.”
The 21-year-old from Murcia can take advantage of Jannik Sinner’s absence in the next three months to try to get closer to the top position in the ATP ranking.
Carlitos is still a long way from the Italian ace, but he had to miss several tournaments at this stage of the season in 2024 due to a forearm injury.
