Pledge, a former FSU quarterback, declares his dedication to the Florida Gators.
The four-star quarterback has already declared his intention to play for the program’s rival after decommitting from FSU on Thursday.
Four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. rescinded his long-standing commitment last Thursday, costing Florida State its sixth commitment since the start of September. With the Early Signing Period quickly approaching, Jones Jr. quickly made another announcement. In a social media post on Sunday night, Jones Jr. announced his commitment to the Florida Gators. When the blue-chip signal-caller left FSU’s 2025 class, the Gators were the clear favorite to sign him. Jones Jr.’s move from garnet and gold to blue and orange was probably influenced by the Seminoles’ dismal season and his relationship with four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III.
He shut down his recruitment over the summer, according to the Florida native. After suffering a season-ending injury, Jones Jr. stated that he was still committed to FSU and was actively recruiting for the school. That obviously wasn’t the case, and Mike Norvell and his coaching staff are now waiting at the altar for yet another potential.
On April 1, 2023, Jones Jr. made his initial commitment to the Seminoles. The majority of the prospects he sought, including his high school classmate Jaime Ffrench, went to other programs, despite the fact that he was a vocal bellcow for the class. The five-star wide receiver never gave the Seminoles any thought this season after selecting Texas in August.
In the end, Florida State may not suffer a significant defeat. Carter Smith, a four-star quarterback, is said to be the Seminoles’ top target to replace Jones Jr. Smith, a native of the Sunshine State, decommitted from Michigan last month. He has thrown 85 touchdowns to 17 interceptions and added 55 rushing scores in his four years as a starter at Bishop Verot High School. In 2023, Smith was named the Gatorade Florida Player of the Year. In his four years as a starter, he has led his team to the playoffs, including a trip to the 2022 semifinals.
