A $152M deal with the Mets might allow the Brewers star to sever ties with MIL.
Star shortstop Willy Adames is the Milwaukee Brewers’ biggest summer uncertainty. Despite this, it appears that the question has already been addressed.
After what was arguably the best season of his career in 2024, Adames is expected to sign a $152 million deal over six years, which seems too steep for Milwaukee. The Brewers aren’t expected to spend much, which could lead Adames elsewhere. In addition, high-spending teams that lose out on Juan Soto will be searching for backup options, and Adames could be that.
Although the New York Mets are a contender for Soto, it is impossible to predict whether they will be able to bring him to the city. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report also mentioned New York as one of the top destinations for Adames to land this winter.
Miller stated, “The only position the Mets won’t be looking to upgrade or re-sign this offseason is shortstop.” However, the Mets have the money to satisfy Adames at second or third base if he is truly willing to go to a new position in the infield. The key question is whether the Mets would prioritize Adames in addition to working on their starting rotation, re-signing Pete Alonso, and attempting to get Juan Soto. “Adames might be the top player on the want lists of the top three teams on this list.It’s unlikely that the Mets will make him the highest offer if he signs before Soto does.If they can make it, it would be an incredible middle infield.
Don’t be surprised if the Mets give Adames a ton of money if they don’t get Soto.
