The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New York Giants 26-18 in Week 8 on “Monday Night Football,” thanks to a masterful second-half performance.
Russell Wilson led the Steelers’ offensive unit, recording one touchdown and 278 yards, completing 20-of-28 pass attempts.
Pittsburgh also had great production from skill players like Najee Harris and Calvin Austin. Harris posted 114 yards on 19 carries and Austin had two touchdowns and 54 yards on three receptions.
While the Steelers’ offense seemed to be rolling, a report prior to the game had fans buzzing about a certain position battle in the locker room.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported before the game that quarterback Justin Fields would be inactive and serve as the Steelers’ No. 3 emergency QB on “Monday Night Football.”
While Fields may have been dealing with a hamstring injury earlier in the week, some fans directly related Schefter’s news to a potential trade.
Some NFL fans believe the Steelers’ decision to keep Fields inactive means a trade may be incoming for the young quarterback.
“He’s getting traded,” said one fan.
“Hmmm…Trade possibility in the works??” questioned one fan.
“Trade coming up?” said another fan.
“This feels like a we’re trying to trade him move,” mentioned one fan.
“Trade him to Carolina,” said one fan.
“Trade him to the Colts,” said another fan.
Fields was the Week 1 starter for Pittsburgh after Wilson suffered a calf injury just before the season.
During his time as the starter, Fields led the Steelers to a 4-2 record. He produced five touchdowns and 1,106 yards with a 66.3 completion percentage. Fields also added five touchdowns and 231 yards on the ground.
He proved to be a quality starter, but Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin decided to look elsewhere to give the offense a bigger spark.
Given the Steelers’ decision to name Russell Wilson as the starter, fans believe Pittsburgh may be gearing up for a trade.
