Pittsburgh Steelers have Traded WR to it’s Rival Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are trading for former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson, according to multiple reports. Johnson will join the Ravens, adding to a wide receiver corps of Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman for Lamar Jackson. The Carolina Panthers will get a fifth-round pick in return for Johnson and a sixth-round pick, a virtual steal for the Ravens.
Johnson is in the last year of his contract and will be a free agent in March. The Steelers could not trade for Johnson after moving him to the Panthers in March due to an NFL rule that prevents any team that has traded for a player from reacquiring them in a subsequent trade within two years of the trade.
Johnson has produced with the Panthers despite suboptimal quarterback play from Andy Dalton and Bryce Young. He missed this Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos with a rib injury.
The Ravens, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Kansas City Chiefs have each made trades for top wide receivers at the trade deadline. Pittsburgh, which has needed a wide receiver since trading Johnson in March, could look to be the next team in line, but the options are dwindling fast.
