The Pittsburgh Steelers are aggressively pursuing a wide receiver trade, according to CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones. Backed up by the Athletic’s NFL insider, Dianna Russini, who says the Steelers would like to get something done at wide receiver in the coming weeks, they both believe that Pittsburgh will eventually acquire someone.
The question becomes who that player will be. Pittsburgh has already checked in on multiple players, including Cooper Kupp and Mike Williams. Darius Slayton makes sense, too, as the Giants’ offense is sputtering, and he is in the last year of his contract.
Kupp is likely off the market after the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday. The Jets are looking to move Williams, but the Steelers are not the only team that would like to acquire his services. Williams’ old team, the Los Angeles Chargers, has also inquired about his availability, leading to questions on whether the Steelers are even the front-runner.
Regardless, the Steelers need an upgrade over Van Jefferson. As of now, George Pickens is carrying the wide receiver room on his back, but in the playoffs, the Steelers will not have the talent at wide receiver to move the ball with consistency unless they find a clear upgrade on the open market.
