Russell Wilson Sends Strong Message on Steelers-Cooper Kupp Rumors
Russell Wilson’s first start for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night was a good one, as momentum builds for their Week 8 “Monday Night Football” matchup against the New York Giants.
Speculation also continues to swirl around Pittsburgh ahead of the NFL’s Nov. 5 trade deadline. The 5-2 Steelers have been linked to multiple big-name wide receivers in recent months, including Davante Adams and Brandon Aiyuk.
This week, another star wideout — Cooper Kupp — was reported by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini as being shopped around by the Los Angeles Rams. The veteran NFL insider also reported on Wednesday that the Rams and Chiefs discussed a deal for Kupp before the reigning Super Bowl champs elected to trade for DeAndre Hopkins instead.
That move pushed the Steelers to the top of SportsBetting.ag’s list of betting odds (-125) for Kupp’s most likely landing spot.
With his name in the news cycle, Wilson’s private QB coach Jake Heaps addressed the potential Steelers-Kupp pairing on Wednesday.

“Cooper Kupp is NOT just a slot WR,” Heaps wrote on X. “When healthy Kupp is an elite ‘Z’ WR and chess piece. Can play all over the field, can win on the entire route tree and is great blocker in the run game. Ever watch Russ throw to Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett? Both elite ‘Z’ WRs.”
“Not sure how realistic that potential trade is but he would be a great compliment to the great group they already have,” he added.
According to Russini, the Rams “have indicated a willingness to take on some of the ‘24 salary and are seeking a 2nd round pick.”
The 31-year-old is in the first season of the three-year, $80.1 million contract extension he signed with Los Angeles in June 2022.
Kupp was not listed on the Rams’ Wednesday injury report and will take the field on Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings, his first game action since Week 2. Russell Wilson and Ciara
