The Pittsburgh Steelers Trade Justin Fields to the…
The NFL season is heading into Week Seven, and that means it is a week closer to the NFL Trade Deadline. Teams will be major buyers and sellers as the true direction of teams is being showcased as to whether they are actual contenders or on the verge of a rebuild. One of those teams that is contending, but missing a few pieces is the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they have a player in Justin Fields that can be a candidate.
While the Washington Commanders are in firm control of the NFC East, there is still a world where the New York Giants can make the playoffs. Currently at 2-5 right now, they’re close behind the Dallas Cowboys (3-3), tied with the New Orleans Saints (2-5), close with the Arizona Cardinals (2-4), San Francisco 49ers (3-4), and Los Angeles Rams (2-4), and the eighth and ninth seeds are occupied by the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles with 4-2 and 4-3 records. New York would need to go on a run, but they could position themselves in a spot where they could sneak into that seventh spot.
It will take a quarterback change, though. Against the Eagles in Week Seven, Daniel Jones was benched by Brian Daboll. It didn’t help the Giants though as they still finished 28-3, but the benching of Jones didn’t sit well with him as he went on to make the comments of “didn’t like it, obviously”, when asked about being benched. Jones started to play better recently, but it never led to consistent winning results, and Jones had still completed just 62.5% of his passes for 1,442 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions while taking 21 sacks. Despite an offensive mind in Daboll, outside of the 2022 season, Jones has not played well, and a switch fully is needed.
That switch will be to trade for Justin Fields. Recently, Fields was the starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading them to a 4-2 record. With Russell Wilson healthy, though, Mike Tomlin benched Fields for Wilson. Against the New York Jets, while they started slow, Wilson led them to a win and didn’t do anything to signal he was going to lose the job to Fields indefinitely.
Fields had played well, accumulating 1,106 passing yards and five touchdowns with just one interception, while also rushing for 231 yards and five touchdowns. While they weren’t MVP type numbers, Fields was effectively leading the offense and winning games for the Steelers. Fields still has the qualities to be a starter in the NFL, and rightfully deserves the chance. He put the Steelers in a winning position, and Fields can do the exact same for the Giants. New York has a wide receiver in Malik Nabers that can pair well with Fields, they have Wan’Dale Robinson, they have Darius Slayton, they have Tyrone Tracy out of the backfield. While it is not a top-tier group, it is a group that has potential that can be tapped into with the right quarterback.
For this trade to get done it would most likely take a few late round picks, but the Giants also have Jalin Hyatt who they haven’t factored in much that they can add in. The Steelers need more wide receiver talent, and if Hyatt isn’t factoring in with the Daboll offense, Pittsburgh could greatly use his speed to open the field alongside Pickens. This helps solve a problem for Pittsburgh, and the Giants get their quarterback of the future in Fields.
