Pittsburgh Steelers Promote Promising Pass Rusher to Active Roster
The Pittsburgh Steelers are promoting outside linebacker Ade Ogundeji from the practice squad to the active roster for their Sunday Night Football game against the New York Jets. Ogundeji was signed to the team’s 53-man roster last week before their clash with the Las Vegas Raiders before being waived on Monday.
He spent the rest of the week of the team‘s practice squad as the Steelers waited to see if they needed their extra roster spot. However, with Nick Herbig still sidelined with a hamstring injury, Ogundeji will come from the practice squad and be the team’s fourth outside linebacker. Alex Highsmith will return for the first time in three weeks.
Ogundeji had just one pass deflection in the team‘s win over the Raiders. The Steelers signed him in August after cutdowns. Ogundeji’s connection to the Steelers comes through offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who was part of the regime that drafted Ogundeji in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft; the Falcons released Ogundeji in May during OTAs.
