DONE DEAL: Pittsburgh Steelers have added wide receiver with Russell Wilson connection
The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding wide receiver Brandon Johnson to their active roster before Sunday‘s game against the New York Jets. Johnson gets the elevation amid rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson being labeled as questionable with a hamstring injury suffered during Thursday’s practice.
Johnson has a connection with Steelers starting quarterback Russell Wilson, who he played with for two seasons in Denver. Signed as an undrafted free agent in the 2022 NFL Draft, Johnson hung around with the Broncos for two seasons. In fact, in the locker room, Johnson and Wilson have lockers right next to each other.
Johnson has 26 receptions for 336 yards and five touchdowns over the first three seasons of his career. He came up for the Steelers’ game against the Dallas Cowboys earlier this season, catching just one pass in that contest.
Johnson gives the Steelers another deep ball threat that has chemistry with Wilson. If Roman Wilson can not play, that gives the Steelers five wide receivers they can use throughout the game, especially with versatile, do-it-all player Cordarrelle Patterson still sidelined with an ankle injury.
