The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former New York Jets wide receiver Lance McCutcheon to the practice squad. As a corresponding move, the team released wide receiver Jaray Jenkins. Pittsburgh now has filled all 17 spots on their practice squad.
McCutcheon is a 6-foot-3, 203-pound wide receiver who came out of Montana State. McCutcheon, an undrafted free agent in the 2022 NFL Draft, signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He spent the entire 2022 season with the Rams. In 2023, McCutcheon started out with the Houston Texans but later joined the Jets.
He stayed with the Jets through the end of the 2023 season and into the 2024 offseason. The Jets cut him from the practice squad at the end of August, and he has remained a free agent since then.
The Steelers face the Jets in Week 7, and McCutcheon’s intricate knowledge of their offense, having worked on the team’s practice squad, could help prepare the Steelers’ defense for Aaron Rodgers and company.
McCutcheon ran a 4.57 40-yard dash coming out of Montana State. He was a First-Team All-Big Sky selection in 2021, posting 1219 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 61 receptions.
