The Pittsburgh Steelers had to make due against the Las Vegas Raiders at outside linebacker. Jeremiah Moon and Ade Ogundeji did well to fill in the gaps, and Moon even came up with a blocked punt to add some splash to the rotation.
However, the Steelers could use one of Nick Herbig or Alex Highsmith back, and it seems they will get that wish against the New York Jets. Sources tell PennLive that Pittsburgh expects Highsmith to return this week.
Highsmith started practicing last week, logging two limited practices. As long as there are no setbacks, Highsmith is expected to practice throughout the week fully, and he should play after missing the last three games with a groin injury.
As for Herbig, his status is far more up in the air. The Steelers, with the return of Highsmith, will have their full defensive line back together as a starting unit for the first time since Highsmith left with an injury against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Moon will likely serve as the third outside linebacker, which he has proven capable of doing through his solid performance as a starter against the Raiders.
