Commanders’ Dan Quinn Reveals Jayden Daniels’ Biggest Improvement
Washington Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels is steadily improving as a passer, much to the delight of head coach Dan Quinn.
Jayden Daniels has been what many thought he would be as the quarterback of the Washignton Commanders in Year 1, and his continual improvement has pleased head coach Dan Quinn.
While Daniels’ ability as a runner is well-documented throughout his college career and the opening month in the NFL, some believe his passing ability needs fine-tuning.
For Quinn, it was during the Commanders’ 34-13 win over the Cleveland Browns that he saw Daniels’ improvement as a passer.
“I think for me, the one that really set it off was the explosive play that went outside the pocket from Jayden to Terry [McLaurin],” Quinn said. “I have even had that discussion of remaining a passer and being able to stay and throw the ball down the field where maybe early in the season on that play, we might have seen Jaden use his legs, and he certainly did on other plays in this game. But on that one in particular, that’s the marker to me, was the one that really set it off to go down the field.”

The pass that Quinn was referencing was a 66-yard bomb to Terry McLaurin on a third-and-13 in the first quarter, as Daniels’s ability as a passer was on show.
Jayden went 14 for 25 for 238 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in another dominating win for the Commanders, which moved them to 4-1 on the season.
While Daniels’ ability as a runner can be devastating, if he can continue to show the kind of improvement as a passer that Quinn is talking about, he is going to be a difficult quarterback to stop.
And that’s exactly what Washington envisioned when it drafted him.
