Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ben Skowronek, who was elevated to the team’s active roster on Tuesday, is being placed on injured reserve after suffering a shoulder injury in their 13-6 win over the Denver Broncos.
That leaves another spot open on the active roster. The Steelers have 52 players, and they could either elevate someone else from the practice squad or sign a free agent to fill that spot.
Skowronek had two special teams tackles over his first two games. He worked primarily as a gunner for the Steelers, but the team went out and signed cornerback James Pierre to help fill the void left behind by Skowronek.
Skowronek is out for the next four weeks but can return for the Steelers game against the New York Jets. The Steelers once again have just five wide receivers on the active roster, but rookie Roman Wilson is expected to return from his high ankle sprain shortly.
