Dolphins Makes a very Sad Announcement on Tua Tagovailoa’s Future, we are done!
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa plans to continue his NFL career. But he’s not going to play for the next several weeks.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the Dolphins are placing Tagovailoa on injured reserve with a concussion.
“The Dolphins are placing QB Tua Tagovailoa on Injured Reserve because of the concussion he suffered on Thursday night, per me and Mike Garafolo,” wrote Rapoport.
“This is in order to give him ample time to progress through the stages of concussion protocol and meet with outside neurologists.”
Rapoport added in another tweet that the earliest Tagovailoa could be back for a game is October 27. He will miss the next four contests, and Miami has a bye in Week 6.
“The earliest Tua Tagovailoa could return is Week 8 vs. the Cardinals, but the Dolphins are adamant that there is no time table as he works through a deliberate process and eventual return to play,” wrote Rapoport.

Tagovailoa was diagnosed with his fourth concussion since his final college season of 2019 on Thursday night. In the third quarter against the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa lowered his helmet and made contact with the chest of Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin while trying to convert a fourth-down try.
The Dolphins quarterback suffered his first concussion in the NFL also on Thursday Night Football during Week 4 of the 2022 season. He left the field on a stretcher.
Just four days prior in Week 3, Tagovailoa hit his head on the turf and was seen on camera unable to stand up straight.
Tagovailoa was not diagnosed with a concussion in Week 3 and only missed three offensive plays. But the NFL and NFLPA changed the league’s concussion protocol as a result of the incident.
Tagovailoa was diagnosed with his second NFL concussion in Week 16 of the 2022 season.
Skylar Thompson is Miami’s backup quarterback. The Dolphins also have veteran signal caller Tim Boyle on the practice squad.
