**Todd Gurley Reverses Decision, Accepts $150 Million Deal with Pittsburgh Steelers, Apologizes to Fans**
In a surprising turn of events, former Rams running back Todd Gurley has reversed his previous stance and accepted a $150 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, offering heartfelt apologies to fans for his initial reluctance.
Gurley, who had initially rejected the idea of being traded to Pittsburgh, has now chosen to embrace the opportunity. During an interview on The 2510 Show, Gurley candidly shared his thoughts on the Rams’ late-career plans to trade him. “I knew they were either going to cut me or try to trade me,” Gurley recalled. “They mentioned teams like Buffalo or Pittsburgh. At the time, I said, ‘No way. Cut me.’ But things have changed.”
Reflecting on his decision, Gurley expressed remorse for his earlier stance and acknowledged the importance of the Steelers’ interest. “I was in a tough spot with my knees and my performance, but I realize now that Pittsburgh could have been a great fit,” he admitted. “I want to apologize to all the fans for my previous comments and for not giving the idea the consideration it deserved.”
Gurley’s initial resistance stemmed from his desire to choose his next team rather than being traded to any willing suitor. Despite signing a lucrative $60 million contract with the Rams in July 2018, arthritic knees quickly diminished his once-formidable speed and explosiveness. By 2019, his performance had noticeably declined, prompting the Rams to explore trade options. Discussions included potential deals with teams like the Steelers.
“I didn’t want to be traded then,” Gurley explained. “But now, I see the value in what Pittsburgh brings to the table. Their interest means a lot, and I’m ready to give my all for this team and its incredible fan base.”
The Rams eventually cut Gurley in March 2020, leading him to sign a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Despite a decent season, his performance continued to wane, and by age 27, after brief interest from Baltimore and Detroit, his NFL career seemed over. Pittsburgh’s interest in Gurley made sense, given head coach Mike Tomlin’s preference for powerful running backs. However, the Steelers ultimately opted to draft Najee Harris in the first round of the 2021 draft.
Now, in a dramatic reversal, Gurley has accepted a substantial offer from the Steelers. “I’m excited about this new chapter,” he said. “I’ve always respected Pittsburgh’s dedication to the game, and I’m ready to contribute and prove myself once again.”
Gurley’s change of heart is a significant development for both him and the Steelers, potentially providing a boost to Pittsburgh’s running game. His apologies to fans indicate a sincere commitment to making the most of this second chance.
As the upcoming season approaches, all eyes will be on Gurley as he joins the Steelers, ready to bring his experience and talent to a team poised for success.
