2nd man arrested for murder of Louisville-area basketball star killed in Buechel shooting
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A second man was arrested Friday for the murder of a Louisville-area basketball star who was shot and killed in the city’s Buechel neighborhood.
Louisville Metro Police said Jeremiah Banks, 20, was charged with murder and robbery in the shooting death of Vincent Crutcher, 34.
The shooting happened just before 4:30 a.m. June 23, 2022, on Heatherview Road near Breckenridge Lane, LMPD said at the time. The victim, later identified as Crutcher, was taken to the the hospital in critical condition, where he died the next day.
Crutcher’s family said he was killed on his way to work. He was a basketball star at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, where he graduated in 2006. He was also a finalist for Mr. Basketball in Kentucky during his senior year and went on to play college basketball at two Kentucky universities.
LMPD said Banks was arrested Friday on South 18th Street in Louisville. He’s the second person to be charged with Crutcher’s death. Shortly after the shooting happened, LMPD arrested Charvontae Reed, 21, and charged him with first-degree assault and second-degree battery. He pleaded not guilty to those charges during an arraignment. He was later charged with complicity to murder and weapons charges.
Banks is being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. A mug shot for Banks was not yet available.
