Steelers HC Mike Tomlin drops truth bomb on what led to…
According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Tomlin stated, “From his perspective, he felt like a change of scenery would be a good thing.” “Those dominoes obviously started falling when we felt the business trajectory with Chicago moving in the right direction.”
The head coach added that he only had the finest intentions for the former quarterback of the Steelers:
“I won’t go into details about our conversations, but I want to say that I appreciate everything he did in Pittsburgh and I wish him all the best in Philadelphia.”
Kenny Pickett’s two-season reign comes to an end.
Not everything about Pickett’s time in Pittsburgh went according to plan. The Steelers needed a quarterback when Ben Roethlisberger retired from the game in 2022, and replacing Big Ben is no small feat. After being chosen in the first round of that year’s draft, Pickett supported Mitch Trubisky for the first several games before being designated a starter in Week 5.
He will, of course, be a backup, with Jalen Hurts making the final decisions. But a “change in scenery,” as mentioned by Mike Tomlin, could be just what the 25-year-old needs to kick-start his career. After all, certain athletes require more time than others to grow and mature.
