DONE DEAL: Steelers Land Star WR $35M
The Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh It seems that the Pittsburgh Steelers have the opportunity to make a trade to get Brandon Aiyuk, the top wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. According to a team insider, there’s a genuine possibility that a transaction will happen despite the circulating rumors and speculations.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac indicated in his weekly fan chat that a deal for Aiyuk may occur, but the compensation might stand in the way.
Dulac said, “Oh there’s a chance,” in response to the question of whether a deal could actually occur. “But it’s a lot to give up, especially when you have George Pickens.”
According to reports, the Steelers have looked into the prospect of obtaining Aiyuk and are generally conducting due research on wide receiver trades. The club is considering George Pickens, Calvin Austin, and freshly signed Van Jefferson as its top wideouts on the roster after trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers.
Former Steeler Dan Moore Jr. at left tackle, along with perhaps a first-round selection, was proposed to Aiyuk by the organization.
Aiyuk will be earning $14 million this season as he approaches the last year of his current deal. He will be searching for a trade-and-sign agreement to secure a long-term contract with his next team at the age of 26.
With $15 million in salary space now available, the Steelers would probably need to modify Aiyuk’s contract in order to offer themselves alternatives for the remainder of their squad and their final free agency moves.
