Why CB James Pierre of the Steelers turns down a $72.5 million, one-year contract.
Today, the Washington Commanders added another cornerback to their roster via free agency. James Pierre, a former wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has agreed to a one-year contract to join Joe Whitt Jr.’s new defense in Washington.
Alongside Pierre will be Larry Izzo, the new coordinator of special teams.
Following the 2020 NFL Draft, the Steelers signed James Pierre, a Florida Atlantic undrafted free agency. Although he was included on Pittsburgh’s original 53-man roster that season, he did not receive his first start until the following season.
In 2021, he played the most defensive snaps (36%), but in each of his four seasons with the Steelers, he has spent at least 45% of his time on special teams.
