Justin Fields has an impact on Zach Wilson’s trade prospects
The Chicago Bears acquired Justin Fields from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, which has the potential to move up to the fourth round.
Why would it matter for the New York Jets, on the surface, if a deal was made between an NFL South franchise and an NFC North team?
Basically, since quarterback Justin Fields had a difficult time following his first-round selection in the 2021 NFL draft. Zach Wilson of the Jets is a player that resembles that exactly right now. Given that Wilson is also available for trade, this should provide some insight into what the Jets may realistically want from a bidder.
Most people agree that Fields has outperformed Zach Wilson in other areas. This would appear to be the upper limit of what the Jets could get in exchange for Wilson, which would be less than a sixth-round selection at base salary.
The Jets would still save almost $5 million in salary space even if this would just be a minor trade compensation. This alone could be sufficient for the Jets to declare the trade a success even if they end up taking a deal that is far less than what the Bears received in exchange for Fields. That cap space might be used for something else except a third-string quarterback, if nothing else.
What do you think? Will the Jets receive more or less than a 6th round pick for Zach Wilson?
