Growing Belief Steelers Could Move on From Russell Wilson
The Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Russell Wilson and Justin Fields share the quarterback room in the Pittsburgh Steelers after the team traded for Kenny Pickett and acquired two starting-caliber passers for practically nothing.
Wilson was signed by Pittsburgh through free agency to a $1.2 million, one-year contract. The team acquired Fields in a deal with the Chicago Bears, forfeiting a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick, when Pickett demanded a trade due to his dissatisfaction with the circumstances.
According to current rumors, the Steelers are planning to start Wilson at quarterback and are not hosting a quarterback competition. However, not everyone is certain that will occur. Adam Schefter of ESPN stated on NFL Live that the organization is expected to let the two quarterbacks determine who will start.
According toAccording to Schefter, one NFL executive from within the organization thinks the Steelers might fire Wilson before the 2024 season even starts if Fields emerges victorious and starts as the team’s starter.
“You owe none of these folks any allegiance, responsibility, or commitment. According to Schefter, they didn’t spend a lot of money on either of them. “I even had an executive say if Justin Fields outplayed him, Russell Wilson, during training camp, they could see them moving on from him before the season.”

If Pittsburgh decides to move on from Wilson, they will probably add another quarterback to their roster, giving them a minimum of two. They usually carry three into the season, so if these don’t work out, they may add one later.
